HOW TO OVERCOME BAD SMELL FROM THE SINK

May 28, 2019

The problem of unpleasant smell is common as for kitchen sink as for bathroom ones. Often the reason is hidden in some garbage, that clogged pipes and started to decompose there. Hence, the successful solution lies in a clog removal and using mixes aimed to overcome smells. Below you may find a couple of tips proposed by Excellent Plumbing, that may help you in your task.

Baking Soda Dissolved In Vinegar

Basically known from chemistry course, that soda dissolved in vinegar causes carbon dioxide emission. This mix is quite efficient in order to break not significant clogs and bring some freshness to the pipes. What is needed is:

  • Approximately 200-250 grams of baking soda;
  • Approximately 200-250 grams of vinegar.

To use it properly, please follow the next recommendations:

  • Pour out baking soda into the sink drain with unpleasant smell;
  • Pour out vinegar into the same sink;
  • Wait for 15-20 minutes, while reaction will start and sizzling will appear;
  • Use hot water for flushing.

Ice and Borax

This method is similar to the previous one and requires to mix 1 or 2 cups of ice with 3 tablespoons of borax.

Firstly, it is required to put borax into the sink drain with an unpleasant smell.

Then ice should be placed to the same sink drain

The only difference with the previous method is not to flush, but to start the garbage disposal process for ten seconds.

Ice and Salt

Borax from the previous method can be easily replaced by salt. Actually, the proportion is the same – 1 cup of salt and 1 or 2 cups of ice. Mix them in the same order (firstly salt, then ice) directly in the smelling sink. The garbage disposal process is also required for ten seconds.

Ice and Lemons

Ice should be prepared in the usual amount of 1-2 cups.

One lemon is needed for this procedure. It should be without peel and cut for 2 halves.

The procedure is also known from previous tips: firstly, lemons should be sent to smelling sink drain, then they should be covered by lemon. Finally, a garbage disposal should mix them inside.

We know, how stinky kitchen or any other sink can annoy and upset, so hope these simple methods with the usage of improvised ingredients will help to overcome the smell, so no harmful chemicals shouldn’t be applied for. Additionally, as you may notice the key to avoid bad smells is keeping garbage disposal systems in good condition and check nothing have been clogged there.
